Toad Suck Daze has been a family tradition for as long as I can remember. It wasn’t always my entire family until the first grandchild was born (of course). It’s one of the few things, other than family vacation that we ALL did together starting 16 years ago. That makes it even more special.
As I have gotten older, the tradition has transformed a bit to include other family members and friends. Sometimes, in the past few years only, my mom or my dad or my sister Shandal didn’t come for one reason or another. I believe last year may have been the first time my nephew Mitch (the 16 year old) missed.
I admittedly have stomped my feet an demanded participation in the years past for all the good it does. My parents missed Deacon’s first Toad Suck where we FROZE to death (Deacon sweated bc I had him bundled so much). This year, my mom was totally in but my dad and sisters were going to bail. However, at the last minute BOTH sisters and my bro-in-law Len [sorta] surprised us by coming! My niece also came and brought two friends, which with her being a 13 year old social butterfly, means a lot! This year it was HOT, and one of the first ever that I can remember it not raining one drop. It was GREAT!!! I love my family so!
Deacon is all but a vegetarian so he only ate a frozen banana…mostly without chocolate. Between Tyler and me, we had two jumbo corn dogs, countless refills of old fashion sodas (black cherry, root beer, grape, and sasparilla), kettle korn, and MY FAVORITE FRIED TWINKIE!!! Great memories!
Aunt Canee bought Deacon’s Toad Suck shirt again this year! Thanks Aunt Canee!
